Grundig AG, formerly known as Grundig Elektronik AG, is a German consumer electronics and household appliance manufacturer headquartered in Ratisbon (Regensburg) in Bavaria. The company was founded in 1945 by Max Grundig and specialized in the production of television sets. It grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s, with the introduction of the first German mass-produced television set and the development of new products like refrigerators and washing machines. In the 1980s and 1990s, Grundig expanded internationally, with subsidiaries and production facilities in Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. The company also diversified its product range beyond household appliances to include telecommunications equipment, surveillance systems, and solar panels. In the early 2000s, Grundig faced financial difficulties and went through a series of mergers and divestitures. In 2000, it merged with Turkish consumer electronics company Arçelik to form the Arçelik-Grundig joint venture. In 2006, the joint venture was sold to the Turkish conglomerate Koç Holding, and Grundig became a subsidiary of Arçelik.Today, Grundig is a brand under the Arçelik umbrella, focusing on household appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers. The company continues to innovate and develop sustainable, energy-efficient products that meet the needs of modern households. Its products are sold in over 50 countries worldwide, and its headquarters in Ratisbon serves as a hub for research and development as well as sourcing and supply chain management.
